If You Really Knew Me, You’d Know…

Dear Sister Friends,

I thought it was time to get a bit up close and personal. The Sisterbration tribe makes up such a big part of my life, and I love you all dearly. So, I figure, it's time we get to know each other a little better.

Here goes!

I love my sons like crazy. And, my husband is my best friend. We love vacationing together and spend most of our time laughing at one another. We all share a desire to adopt a baby girl whom we've already named. Three children was the compromise because, before we married, Mark wanted six. Cray-cray!

Growing up I wanted to have a talk show, Oprah-style. She's still one of my biggest inspirations (and I still haven't given up on that dream albeit slightly altered!). In fact, when she and I spoke recently I shared with Oprah my dream of hosting an intimate show about self-love and sisterhood on OWNTV. She responded, "Make it happen!" as I cringed from stating my dream aloud to her face-to-face. Who does that?!? Crazy people, clearly! But, I'm so happy I did because I believe strongly in the power of our words to manifest our dreams and visions.

My secret, guilty pleasure is high-end fashion and accessories. Shoes and handbags and earrings -- oh my! As a busy mom and business woman, I don't get to glam up as often as I'd like, but this is something I definitely want to focus more on this year. It feels so good to get all dressed up and fancy! The last time I did get all made up was for my charity's Gala back in November. I must admit that I didn't particularly care for my make-up that evening. It was too bold. I'm a simple, au natural kinda girl.

My favorite food is catfish (Yeah, I know!). And I loathe octopus. The weirdest combination that I love, but that makes my husband and my boys look at me with concern in their eyes, is homemade tartar mixed with ketchup and hot sauce served on the side with my favorite farm-raised catfish. (No seriously, try it!).

I'm afraid of roller coasters. I hate whiskey -- without honey, of course! The best wine I've ever drank is a decadent South African red. We smuggled six bottles back from Stellenbosch in 2012 and still have two bottles stashed for special occasions. But, if necessary, I'll settle for a good ole' Texas margarita when I need a special treat during our annual stroll through the Texas State Fair (one of the few things I'll miss).

If my life had a theme song, it would be Blessed by Martina McBride.

I love to read O, The Oprah Magazine. With every new issue, I first read Oprah's "What I Know for Sure" column. I love to watch ABC's Scandal on Thursday nights. And my favorite, girls' night in movie is Love and Basketball. Watched in my pajamas while eating 99% fat-free popcorn, of course!

I'm desperate to visit London and Australia, my favorite place on earth is South Africa, and I am intrigued by the thought of the sheer excitement and adventure of a horseback ride through the Masai Mara in Kenya, alongside zebras and wildebeests, past elephants, giraffes, lions and dozens of other animals.

More than anything, I believe in honesty and generosity. The power of showing up as your full self and giving of your spirit to other people. The healing power of community. The soothing balm of sisterhood.

I am passionate about so many things: Being the best mother and wife possible, traveling and seeing the world and -- of course -- the work we do through Play Like A Girl! to help our girls here in the U.S. and in South Africa -- the leaders of tomorrow -- live happy, healthy and active lifestyles.

Above all else, I am grateful. So grateful for the loved ones whose bright smiling faces greet me each morning, and whose laughter is imprinted on my heart. So grateful for the opportunity to do work I love, that means so much to me, and that has so much power to change the world. So grateful for you, dear reader, and the entire Sisterbration community.

Thanks for being here.

Now it's your turn -- what would we know about you if we really knew you? Shine your light and share it in the comments!
