Kimberly S. Clay, PhD, MPH, MSW, Executive Director
Dr. Kimberly S. Clay, a native of Batesville, Mississippi, is a celebrated behavioral scientist, teacher and motivational speaker. She is married to Dr. Mark A. Clay, and together they lead Sisterbration and Imani Health Group, Inc.
A teacher first, Dr. Kim has significant influence both inside and outside the classroom. She has taught at several prestigious institutions including Morehouse School of Medicine. In 2010, Dr. Kim left academia to run Sisterbration full-time after serving as assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Georgia. Her overarching research agenda examines the health of women across the life course, highlighting the interplay between race and ethnicity, stress, spirituality/religiosity and social support on cancer-related outcomes.
Dr. Kim also serves as a guest panelist for numerous professional conferences and workshops across the country. She has authored several book chapters and articles examining the relationship between spirituality/religiosity and cancer survivorship. Her publications appear in several peer-reviewed journals including Cancer Control, Health Education Research, and Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work.
Dr. Kim’s commitment to helping minority women and girls realize their best life is evident through her lifestyle of service. She founded Sisterbration in 2004 to promote health and sisterhood. She frequently hosts retreats, workshops and other events to empower women and girls to develop a strong sense of self while also improving their mental and physical health. In addition, Dr. Kim mentors young women, and serves on a number of important committees and Boards that promote women’s health issues.
With a doctoral degree in health education and promotion, Dr. Kim has a heart for drawing out the best in others – especially women. She believes firmly that her faith is the driving force behind her work. Her need to express the profound nature of faith is what propels her to manifest impossibilities in her life and the lives of others. Above all her accomplishments, she considers supporting her husband in his career as an internist and pediatric cardiologist and raising godly children her primary purpose in the earth.
