Mission
The Sisterbration mission is to educate, empower and enlighten African-American and other women of color with the knowledge, tools and resources necessary to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Sisterbration operates as a not-for-profit organization under the Federal 501(c)3 IRS code. With affiliate offices in several states, we rely on grants, individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and program fees to run our programs. Some of our programs are fee-based, however financial assistance is available to ensure that programs are accessible to all who are in greatest need.
While working to expand the impact of our services throughout the Deep South region of the United States, we concentrate our efforts for public health impact within five metro areas near our office in Texas: Dallas, Denton, Frisco, McKinney, Plano.
Today, we offer three signature programs to improve the health of African-American and Hispanic women and girls from communities disproportionately affected by the burden of heart disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, obesity and stroke. We also match motivated teen women (ages 11-18) with fierce professional women in the community for a year-long experience as a part of our Sugar & Spice Mentoring Program.
In 2010 alone, we served over 3500 women and girls
The core of the Sisterbration strategy is harnessing popular culture and communication for health education/promotion. This strategy – often called “edutainment” – weaves health and social issues into lifestyle and entertainment genres such as fashion, fitness, music and the arts.
By combining a healthy dose of education and entertainment, we have embraced a cross-generational community of ‘girls’ from pre-teens to grandmothers.
The Sisterbration symbol (logo) features a silhouette of three generations of women in jubilant celebration, expressing the triumphant spirit of the Sisterbration mission and our focus on celebrating the collective strength of ‘sisters’. |
